Linus Torvalds created a kernel combined with GNU which was created by Richard Stallman and created Linux. Linux is an open source OS which lets users work together to change software as needed. The popular version of Linux used today is Red Hat which was created by Mark Ewing.

When inventing Linux, the the creators of the open source OS never thought they would have such businesses as Google, Cisco, Home Depot, or even our Federal Government would use this OS because of it's low cost and compatibility.
