How about a filter to handle other Wiki markup formats? That way users who are familiar with another Wiki's formatting can easily contribute to JSPWikis. Also, easily solves the data migration problem.

Though there are pros and cons to each approach I think it would be better to save the data as-is and run the filter at display time rather than to manipulate what is saved.
