Not sure whether this is an idea or a bug report...
Occasionally the supporting of non-breaking spaces
or  is desirable.
I tried using (2.2.28, Tomcat55, JDBC provider) and the results where rather strange. Initially it worked, then after another editing cycle little boxes appeared instead. See also Bug Suspected Minor Bugs Involving Ampersand.
Seen as an idea: an officially supported method should be described (and then if it does not work it is reportable as a bug...)
