Take a look at the page history on InterWikiLinkTips or GuestBook.

The spammers edit pages multiple times accomplishing two things.

1. Making the page history horrendously long.
2. Wiping out a pages original content.

I marked page history and all previous pages with meta "noindex, nofollow". So spamming pages no longer increase any ranks, once someone restores.
